So basically you're showing off your user title, which is your post count in words. That has to be it, because I really cannot think of a logical reason someone would think that their user title/post count was an achievement, or that they felt the need to spam a forum to get the user title.

If showing off the user title is a big concern, then why not just show it only in the user profile and not in the posts. Some people see achievements differently, do you think repetitive killing of monsters for a certain title in GW an achievement? I agree that the spam in the OT is out of hand at times, but that doesnt mean blocking all the post counts in the OT section.

They feel accomplished by getting to the next title. It is/was always fun to see what title was next. But it doesn't mean you should spam to get it.
As for what Stuey said about the PC forum. Yes I respect the people that actually help out and tell people what the PC is. BUT it is the people that go in there and /agree with a PC guru just to get +1. That is what I am talking about. I have been there a few times, and I saw alot of people doing that. Just pointless.
Also I agree with there should be a post count for everything or none at all. I have tried to get into discussions in other threads but I can't stand the QQ'ers and the elitest. I prefer to have a safe place that I can get +1 without having to worry about someone telling me I am a n00b because I like some guys build and it works for me.

Sigh. The concept of allegory is lost upon your young, unexposed soul.
My post is relevant to the discussion at hand; you failed to put any amount of thought into comprehending it.
Oh, and /sign to the idea of removing post counts entirely. Maintaining them makes only slightly more sense than transferring characters and gold into GW2. It's the same stupid premise...people don't want to lose their "work."

I agree. My preference would be that all posts made anywhere are of substance and contribute to the overall good of the website. Having all this spam in Off-topic just creates a bloated website and dilutes the substance here.

Why don't you just change the title so its based on how long you've been a member rather than how many posts you have racked up.
I hope I don't spam I'm not sure if I'm in the "Spammers" category.

Firstly, I'd like to note that this thread here is probably worth reading more then any others in this section.
I once modded the OT section. I became a mod when we struck down on OT with Thors Hammer and enfoced these rules that we have in OT now.
I've always felt that the games here that we have to our disposal are simply just a postcount +1, thats why I myself posted in them. Then I came to the conclusion that my postcount on a forum dosn't mean anything. I'd rather go by the quality of my posts then my quantity of my posts.
My opinion, on the subject at hand, if you want your post count to "count" again in the OT section, remove all the easy +1 post count threads, and make this a decent looking forum, and not just some spam section that it is/has been.
My vote /undecided

I really could go for that. I could live with all the forum games that promote simple +1 posts being taken away or even placing the +0 post count on them. But putting it on the whole OT section is kinda ridiculous. imo.

Ya putting +0 or a limit to a number of post in one day on the games is fine with me.

I don't think the forum has the ability to edit a post that much. For one, the ability to do so would be stupid for just a single post.
I see the option for a section of a forum, like OT, but I highly doubt theres an ablity to individually set the post count in specific threads to ensure that you don't get a post count by posting in it. It would be a rather redundant forum option.

Some of the features you guys are suggestion just aren't possible. We don't have any kind of the manpower to enforce having a limited number of posts per user per topic, and we can't modify the spam filter for +whatever.
The options at hand are:
-Keep posts as +0 across the whole board
-Clean up off topic in a huge way and get rid of many, many threads
-Change everything back
-Remove off topic
In order of favorability, the last being least favorable. My purpose here though is to aim to expand those options.
Enforcement of rules isn't a huge issue as a ton of these off topic posts can either be spam or qualified posting depending on the point of view of whoever reads them. But what off topic is gradually degenerating into is the post count +1 forum which a lot of us do not want.
I'll tell you what, I could care less how many posts a user has when they come asking me a question, as long as they're reasonable about it and speak clearly. And yes some users will rub post counts around in others' faces, but they're just being stupid.

I would say that is pretty much the same order for me but switch Keep posts at +0 and Change everything back, so basically
-Change everything back
-Clean up off topic in a huge way and get rid of many, many threads
-Keep posts as +0 across the whole board
But removing the off-topic is not a good idea to me. I think it woudl increase the spam everywhere else.
I wouldn't mind cleaning up the off-topic getting rid of the forum games. I know people like them but I think they are just +1 threads really.

/not signed. I really couldn't give half a shit about post counts or titles on any forum anywhere. Especially in the off-topic and the absurd section. Only time I would care would be if/when someone was a moderator or administrator of the respective forum. Thats about it.

Maybe the games need to be replaced by more cerebral games.
Like that other Guy Above Me thread where you use the last letters of the post above as the first letters of your post.
ie.
first: The guy above me speaks truthfully.
then: The guy above me smells yak.

I would much rather remove post count, and give everyone the option to change the title to say whatever we want like the mods do (like a mini-signature for the non-elite). I /vote for that.

Um, no it wouldn't, because posting the type of crap people get away with in this forum would get you a ban in any other forum, and that (I think) is partially why this is an issue.
